Friends of Oceano Dunes Today was not a good day whatsoever... if you have any interest in saving Oceano Dunes District - Pismo we HIGHLY recommend getting involved ASAP. We are loosing this battle. OCRV has been at the forefront of these complicated issues surrounding this riding area through both funding and staff involvement. We will continue to do so until the last vehicle drives off that beach.
At this point, in this direction, It’s not a matter of if- but when the park is completely closed. We do still have a chance, but YOU must get involved personally, professionally, or monetarily.
The 50% closure of the camping area is the ONLY closure of the many recent closures that will specifically effect park attendance. Small riding area reductions will only slightly modify attendance levels, but with a 50% camping reduction you will find it very difficult to purchase camping passes. The closures will start at pole 4! Meaning that the open camping area will be from pole 2 to pole 4. Let that sink in.
I hope this is a wake up call, and I hope that we can all band together to show what a minority group, without developer-level funding could possibly tackle. But without your help, the end is near. ... See more

Friends,
Today’s decision by State Parks to close another 50 acres to develop foredunes was not what we wanted. This will have a devastating impact to continued camping and recreation. Lisa Mangat, Director of State Parks, further estimated that this new development would require an estimated reduction of ~50% of the campsites. Which also can equate to an estimated 50% reduction in the economic impact to the surrounding communities…or maybe better stated as a loss of greater than $100 million annually.
We are very proud of all who showed up and spoke with passion for this wonderful park. We very much wanted to be there, but due to ongoing litigations we could not participate.
We have not given up and hope you have not either! We are still involved in many lawsuits and are entertaining filing more. We are working with many groups and continue to have ongoing discussions with many people.
We will share more over the coming weeks and be asking for your help in several ways, please stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Friends of Oceano Dunes, Board of Directors ... See more
